New functional magnetic materials are in high demand, both for nano-technology, information storage and for green energy conversion in wind-mills and wave power generators. The recent increase in the cost of rare-earth elements, a key component in permanent magnets, call for new rare-earth free compounds. By means of data-filtering methods combined with advanced electronic structure theory and atomistic spin-dynamics, new magnets will be identified.

Olle Eriksson

Department of Physics and Astronomy

Prof. Olle Eriksson received his PhD degree in 1989 from Uppsala University. He spent three years as a postdoc at Los Alamos National Laboratory, before returning to Uppsala University as an assistant professor in 1992. In 2002 he became professor in physics, at Uppsala University. His research interest is theory of materials science. He has published ~700 peer reviewed articles, which have attracted over 30000 citations. He has received several awards, including the Celsius medal in Gold. He has supervised 50 PhD students to exam and has been advisor of 28 postdocs.
