The key principles are to promote data-driven, inter-disciplinary approaches to social sciences and the humanities, foster academic research that involves the genuine participation (through co-design) of local communities, industry and government, and to develop innovative courses at Undergraduate and Masters Level that attracts a wide spectrum of learners at key stages across the life course, including mature students many of whom will be seconded from their current and future workplaces.

Lesley McAra

The University of Edinburgh

Lesley McAra Professor of Penology at the University of Edinburgh. She is also an alumna of the University of Edinburgh and of the Open University. She began her career as a researcher in the Scottish Office where she led a major programme of research evaluating social work criminal justice services. In 1995, she joined the University of Edinburgh as Lecturer in Criminology, was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2005, and to the Chair of Penology in 2009.
