Finding out how digital technology affects is difficult, because it requires accessing, processing, and analyzing complex data that often belong to big tech platform and raise privacy concerns. Traditional social science research models fall short because they rely on individual scholars to come up with ad hoc solutions. Instead, the Digital Democracy Lab has built a flexible, scalable infrastructure that allows researchers to collect and analyze large amounts of unstructured data in real time.

Fabrizio Gilardi

Department of Political Science, University of Zurich

Fabrizio Gilardi is a professor of political science at the University of Zurich. He is the co-founder and director of the Digital Democracy Lab. With the support of an ERC Advanced Grant, he is currently working on the project “Problem Definition in the Digital Democracy” (PRODIGI), which studies the development and effects of different discourses regarding the implications of digital technology for politics and democracy.
