McDonald is a visual artist working in painting, drawing, film and sound. Her works explores the origins of life on this planet and the information held within plant life. In “Arctic Pressings” she is not only visually inspired in plants brought back from expeditions and in historic data collections, even more she studied it in the hope of reactivating the respective seeds. Her practice entwines with science and its endeavours and aims to open up ways to learn from the past.
Siobhan McDonald holds a Masters in Visual Arts Practices from IADT and has been an Artist in Residence at the School of Natural Sciences at Trinity College Dublin. Her projects employ an interdisciplinary approach that manifests in many forms including painting, drawing, film and sound. Using diverse methodologies, Siobhan works collaboratively with historians, scientists & composers on projects combining ideas of interaction on the natural world and materiality.
