The nominating institution Worcester Polytechnic Institute on the project:

The concert series pairs scientists with artists (composers, performers, dancers) around a central theme. The artists work with the scientists to develop musical works that reflect, represent, comment on, or are otherwise inspired by the research and concepts of the scientific theme. During a concert, these works and the scientific research that inspired them are presented in pairs. The varied perspectives on shared ideas show science and art, and the connection between them, in new light.

Multiverse Concerts

David Ibbett, Ph.D. is a composer, educator and musical advocate for science. Based in Boston, he directs the Multiverse Concert Series, a project that combines music and science in live performance. David composes electrosymphonic music: a fusion of classical and electronic styles. Musical strands are met with inspiration from the work of scientists: sonified data, musical metaphors for scientific concepts, and experimental sound and images from contemporary research. Beginning in 2020, David is the first Guest Composer at Fermilab, the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.
