MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR TIME AT Falling Walls x BERLIN SCIENCE WEEK 2020
Everyone who attends Falling Walls x Berlin Science Week brings uniquely valuable knowledge with them. The conference gathers forward-thinking individuals from diverse sectors to introduce, explore and discuss breakthroughs in science and society. We want to make sure that you have the opportunity to tap into all the knowledge in attendance and build fruitful relationships with each other during the event. We do this with braindates, a peer-to-peer learning and knowledge sharing service.

Braindates are one-on-one or small group conversations that you book with other people using the Braindate platform and which take place virtually. Braindates are not formal presentations; all attendees are encouraged to post topics they are curious or passionate about, whether professional or personal.

What is a braindate?
You are joining Falling Walls x Berlin Science Week to meet great people and learn about new things. But how do you spark those meaningful conversations? It all starts with a virtual braindate.

Virtual braindates are knowledge-sharing conversations that you book with others to have one-on-one or in small groups (via video chat), on the Braindate platform. They’re the best way to connect with, learn from, and have terrific conversations with new people—all virtually.

Here’s what to do:

  1. Log into Braindate to create your profile: falling-walls.braindate.com
  2. Use the activation code: FWxBSW
  3. Explore the Topic Market: participants (and you, too!) post braindate topics related to discussions they’d like to have with others during the event. You can invite anyone to meet based on their topic!
  4. Create topics: post braindate topics about discussions you’d like to have. This is your opportunity to share your knowledge, experiences, and expertise!
  5. Book your braindates: send invitations to meet others to discuss their topics, and accept the invitations you receive. Once confirmed, your braindates will take place virtually right on the platform. You will be able to schedule to talk to other people in the braindate slots from 1 – 10 November 2020 between 11:00 and 13:00 CET and between 15:30 – 18:30 CET.

How to host a meaningful braindate?
Braindates are not presentations, they are conversations that stem from a shared interest.

Whether it’s a one-on-one or group braindate, keep the following 5 tips in mind to lead a meaningful braindate for everyone involved:

  1. Make sure everyone introduces themselves and contributes to the discussion.
  2. Ask the participant(s) what interested them about the topic.
  3. Be transparent and honest about your own experience related to the topic: You don’t need to be an expert to lead a braindate.
  4. Don’t forget that everyone has something interesting they can add to the conversation: Adopt a beginner’s mindset.
  5. Don’t forget to share contact information. Many great relationships started with a simple conversation.
  6. This is an open dialog. Respect others, report unacceptable behaviour and leave the conversation if you are not feeling comfortable.
