Berlin, 29 October 2018. You are cordially invited to join us on 8 November when the Falling Walls projects Lab, Venture and Engage will elect their winners. Who will win the titles “Young Innvoator of the Year 2018“(Falling Walls Lab); “Science Start-Up of the Year 2018“ (Falling Walls Venture) and “Falling Walls Science Engagement of the Year 2018” (Engage)?
Falling Walls Lab
The 100 Falling Walls Lab participants qualified for the Finale in Berlin at 77 international Falling Walls Labs in 57 countries – from China, India, and Thailand to Kenya, Uzbekistan, and Abu Dhabi to Brazil and Canada. In Berlin, each participant will have just 3 minutes to present their research and convince a distinguished jury of scientists and entrepreneurs that their idea has the greatest breakthrough potential of all. This year’s presentations will include fresh ideas on how to decrease plastic usage in our daily lives, technologies that tackle the issue of space debris endangering human activity in near-earth space, and solutions that strengthen international aid efforts in crisis regions on a local level. The jury will be chaired by Claudie Haigneré, Astronaut and Senior Advisor to the Director General at the European Space Agency (ESA), and former Minister for Research and New Technologies of France.
The top three participants will be named the Falling Walls Young Innovators of the Year 2018 and receive the opportunity to present their ideas again on the following day – in front of an audience of 700 guests at the Falling Walls Conference.

Falling Walls Engage
In the competition for the title “Best of Science Engagement ” 20 science communicators from 15 countries will meet at Falling Walls Engage for the first time.
Falling Walls Engage is an international platform for science engagement. The new format hosted by the Falling Walls Foundation in cooperation with the Robert Bosch Stiftung presents 20 successful projects on science engagement from a variety of fields: From public outreach to pub science, from kindergarten education to VR experiences, and from citizen science to journalism, Falling Walls Engage connects those who tear down the walls between science and the public. The programme seeks to highlight the scientific community’s responsibility for the common good and spread scientific literacy, with a special focus on “hard-to-reach” target groups.
A distinguished international jury chaired by Professor Johannes Vogel, Director-General of the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, selects the winning project evaluating novelty, impact and transferability. The winner will get the chance to pitch their project on the grand stage of the Falling Walls Conference to an audience of 700 global leaders, decision-makers, and international media representatives.
