Startup from Switzerland, T3 Pharmaceuticals, wins the Falling Walls Venture Science Award for its next-generation cancer therapy

Berlin, 8 November 2018
. Swiss start-up T3 Pharmaceuticals has been named the “Falling Walls Science Startup of the Year 2018”. Its product, a protein delivery technology based on the use of live bacteria, has the capacity to grow specifically in solid tumors, thus helping to treat cancer patients more efficiently.

“T3 Pharmaceuticals impressed the jury with its novel delivery system of bacteria which ensures that solid tumors are accessible and treatment can begin regardless of the type of tumor”, said Dr. Stefan von Holtzbrinck, CEO of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group and head of the Falling Walls Venture Jury, explaining the jury’s choice of the startup from Switzerland. The start-up was nominated by the University of Basel. The winner gets the chance to present again on the grand stage of the Falling Walls Conference.

A total of 23 science based startups from around the world were invited to present their business ideas at Falling Walls Venture in Berlin. Among the participants were companies based in Russia, Germany, India, Canada, Switzerland, Great Britain and Mexico. Each company had five minutes to present their business model to the international jury of entrepreneurs, scientists and venture capitalists.

One of the finalists of this year’s competition was the German startup Blickfeld, which wants to teach self-driving cars how to better interact with their environment; the Indian company Clensta, which aims to provide personal hygiene products without water; a noninvasive detection method for prostate cancer from Canada; and the Swiss company Scewo, which is developing a revolutionary wheelchair.

The finalists at Falling Walls Venture had been nominated by renowned international universities and research institutions. ETH Zürich, New York University, Humboldt-Universität Berlin, TU Vienna, University of Cape Town and the Indian Institute of Technology, amongst others, sent their best science-based startups to compete for the title of “Falling Walls Science StartUp of the Year 2018”.

Falling Walls Venture is an initiative of the Falling Walls Foundation and generously supported by its global partners Siemens, Boehringer Ingelheim and Evonik, as well as the Berlin senate. It takes place in cooperation with international partner Universities and research institutions.
