International Year of Science Engagement: Falling Walls to Hold Assembly for Its New Initiative in Paris from 30 May through 1 June 2022

Berlin. 6 May 2022. The charitable Falling Walls Foundation will hold an Assembly for its initiative “International Year of Science Engagement 2027” (IYSE2027) in Paris from 30 May through 1 June 2022. The event participants will commit to fulfilling the action plan to pronounce 2027 as an official United Nations International Year of Science Engagement.

The IYSE aims to be endorsed by the UN as an International Year next year and is currently looking for social, political, and funding partners to support this year of action for science and society.  Among the attendees are representatives of the International Science Council, the UN International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development, the initiative for an International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, European Science Engagement Association, and others.

“In the wake of the natural, societal and political adversities we face as humanity, Science Engagement is a crucial tool that will help us tackle the biggest challenges of our time. By aiming to implement 2027 as the United Nations International Year of Science Engagement, we will give Science Engagement visibility while engaging the global community and policy makers, as well as showcasing the outstanding opportunities and contributions made by Science Engagement practitioners around the world.” – says Wiebke Rössig, Director Science and Society, Falling Walls Foundation.

The agenda of the Assembly will include discussions and presentations by Science Engagement practitioners, experts, and officials from fields of science, diplomacy, and sustainable development. Among the speakers are representatives from Sciences Po, the International Science Council, Rethink Education and Science in Iraq (RESI), and others.

The event will conclude on 1 June with a historical signing ceremony of the official “Strategic Alliance Agreement Between International Years of Science”, initiated by the IYSE. The participation in the IYSE Assembly is by invitation only.

By launching and scaling this global initiative of change, the Falling Walls Foundation will build on its years of expertise in Science Engagement established by Falling Walls Engage.
