Prof. Mauro Ferrari is currently the President Designate of the European Research Council, the Executive Vice President for Strategic Initiatives and Community Partnerships, Trustee, and Professor at the University of St. Thomas. He is also the Director for Arrowhead Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:ARWR) and the Scientific Advisor at the Houston Methodist Hospital and Research Institute. Ferrari graduated in Mechanical Engineering from UC Berkeley and received his PhD there as well. In the late 1980s he worked as an Assistant Professor in Civil Engineering at the Universita’ di Udine in Italy. From 1991 until 1998 he was working as an Assistant and Associate Professor with tenur in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering and Bioengineering at UC Berkeley. From 1998 until 2006 he was a Full Professor with tenure and endowed chair in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Internal Medicine at the Ohio State University. He was also a Director of Biomedical Engineering and an Associate Director at the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute. From 2006 until 2010 he was a Full Professor for Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical School Houston and MD at the Anderson Cancer Center. Professor Ferrari received numerous awards such as the Aurel Stodola Medal, Mechanical Engineering, ETH Zurich in 2012 or the Blais Pascal Medal in Biomedical Engineering from the European Academy of Sciences in 2015.
