Jan Palmowski obtained his PhD from the University of Oxford and was appointed Professor of Modern History at King’s College London in 2009. He became Dean of Arts and Humanities there before moving to the University of Warwick as Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Acacdemic Vice President. While still holding a Chair at the University of Warwick he is currently seconded as Secretary-General of the Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, which represents nineteen leading universities in fourteen European countries. Since its foundation in 2016, the Guild has established itself as a leading advocate for the importance of scientific excellence, for collaborative research across boundaries, and for the importance of universities as key actors within the innovation eco-system.
