Kirsten M Florentine Weber is a post-doctoral scholar at the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures, The University of Sheffield, UK, finding out why the atmosphere over land is becoming drier. Her research focuses on climate variability, land cover and land use change, terrestrial water management and physiological responses to CO2. By enhancing our understanding of hydrological cycles, Kirsten helps to improve climate models. Kirsten studied biophysics at Bielefeld University (Germany) and the University of Toulon (France) and accompanied interdisciplinary research projects in hydrology, vegetation and fauna in Brest (France) and Lisbon (Portugal). She is active as an ambassador and project coordinator in the Royal Meteorological Society (RMetS) and the German Physical Society (DPG) and represents Early Career Researches in the European Geosciences Union Hydrological (EGU) Science Division. Extensively upskilled in science communication, Kirsten accepted the challenge to build a sustainable world for future generations by establishing ties between science, politics, industry, and communities.
