Sustainable Digitalization in Urban Areas

Einstein Center Digital Future, Alexander von Humboldt Institut für Internet und Gesellschaft, Weizenbaum-Institut

1 city – countless challenges – 3 institutions of digitalization research – many opportunities.

As part of the Berlin Science Week 2020, the Alexander von Humboldt Institute for Internet and Society (HIIG), the Einstein Center Digital Future (ECDF) and the Weizenbaum Institute for the Networked Society (WI) are organizing a joint event on the topic of “Sustainable Digitalization in Urban Areas”. The event will consist of three virtual workshops focusing on different aspects in the field of digitalization in urban areas – Smart Neighborhoods, Data Governance and participation. The workshops are addressing researchers as well as stakeholders like policy makers, civil society and business representatives in order to enable an interdisciplinary and transsectoral dialogue about the above mentioned topics. The Event will conclude with a joint panel discussion about the workshops outcomes and the overarching question of how to enable a sustainable digitalization in cities like Berlin. The virtual panel discussion will be open to a broader public through a livestream.
