In einem digitalen Fishbowl-Talk soll der Nucleus der STADTMASCHINE KUNST herauskristallisiert werden: Wie kann der Diskurs zwischen Künstler*innen, Wissenschaftler*innen und Nutzer*innen über Kunst und Forschung konkret gestaltet werden? Im Labor STADTMASCHINE KUNST @MDC wird daran gearbeitet, die Wissenschaftskommunikation mit den Mitteln der Bildenden Kunst zu verbessern: die komplexen Forschungsinhalte sollen unter Einbeziehung der Gesellschaft visuell erfahrbar gemacht werden.
Wo liegen die Chancen, wo die Grenzen dieses Experiments? Wie soll die STADTMASCHINE KUNST konkret aussehen, damit Forschung, Kunst und Gesellschaft interagieren können. Diskutieren Sie mit!
In diesem Fishbowl – Diskussionsformat der Initiative STADTMASCHINE KUNST bei der Stiftung Zukunft Berlin können Sie sich mit Künstler*innen und Wissenschaftler*innen über die jeweiligen Arbeitsinhalte und -ansätze austauschen; sowie die Schnittstellen ausloten, die in einer konkreten, so unkonventionellen wie grenzüberschreitenden STADTMASCHINE KUNST münden.

Media artist, Performer, Author
Veronika Dräxler is a media artst, performer and author. She utilizes websites, language, moving images, installations and performative rituals to create poetic narratives that research digital identity, (re)appropriation and (post)colonialism in relation to the existential pressure of being a human in late capitalism. She is the founder of Selbstdarstellungssucht.de, a blog about contemporary art and digital identity, awarded “Kultur- und Kreativpilot” by the German Government.
Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine
Cancer Biologist, Pediatric Oncology Fellow and Conceptual Artist
Dr. Med. Anton Henssen studies rare childhood tumors at the MDC, practices as a pediatrician and is also a conceptual artist and painter. He studied medicine in Düsseldorf and Paris, obtained his PhD in neuroscience in Jülich and Aachen, and did a postdoc at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Since 2018, he heads a research group at the ECRC of the MDC and the Charité Berlin and regularly exhibits his art, most recently in a solo exhibition at the Alte Münze in Berlin-Mitte.

Jan “Yaneq” Kage has various occupations: Since September 2009, “Yaneq” hosts the weekly show “Radio Arty” on 100,6 FluxFM. Since August 2010 he is the director of the art space SCHAU FENSTER in Berlin-Kreuzberg, where positions of contemporary artists are shown. Since April 2018 he runs the art and culture space KanyaKage in Berlin-Kreuzberg together with his partner. And as a musician and rapper Yaneq released several albums, as well as a few singles and features.

Artist and Composer
Thom Kubli works as an artist and composer in Berlin. His practice is multidisciplinary, blending elements of composition, sculpture, and conceptual approaches. His installation pieces deploying sound as a significant element. His works often explore digital innovations to question sensitive spots of social dynamics. Kubli’s performances and installations have been shown internationally. His composition pieces and experimental radio plays have been broadcasted through public radio stations.

Principal Investigator
After several career stations abroad, latest as the faculty of the Institute of Genome Sciences & Policy at Duke University, NC, USA, Uwe became professor at the Humboldt University and a group leader at the MDC in 2012. His lab “Computational Regulatory Genomics” researches mechanisms of gene expression and machine learning approaches to decode gene regulation in the development of complex organisms. He can be heard on stage as part of the vocal arts ensemble Byrdland.

Artist, PhD-Student
Jovana Popic was born in Zadar, Croatia. She has received numerous prizes and scholarships for her multimedia work, including the Presidential Prize of the UdK Berlin for her final thesis with Rebecca Horn and the Sennheiser Future Audio Artist Award. Her current works deal with thematic complexes such as memory and forgetting and are based on scientific methods. Popic is a doctoral student in Art and Anthropology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb.
EDGE Neuroscience Art e.V.
PhD Student, Executive Curator
Ian Erik Stewart is a PhD candidate at the MDC Berlin researching on the neurobiology of proprioception. During his studies in Sydney, London, and Berlin, he produced installations and audio artworks; to humanize and communicate neuroscience to the public, in 2017 he and other neuroscientists founded the association EDGE: Blurring the Borders between Art and Neuroscience, the activities of which include workshops and exhibitions.
