Quantum computer in Russia: who, how and when?

Russia entered the quantum race and announced the launch of the project of Rosatom corporation on building a quantum computer with a budget of €350 million. Being led by the team of the Russian Quantum Center, it aims to upgrade the level of development of quantum technologies in Russia according to the parameters described in the roadmap with guidelines by 2024 year. It includes not only the development of the quantum technologies but building new strong international collaborations, launching new competitive startups as American, Chinese and European and joining the world leaders in this field. The roadmap for this project was the first approved by the Russian government.

Head of State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom project in quantum technologies

Starting from August 2012 and till recently Ruslan Yunusov has been the CEO of the Russian Quantum Center with 17 scientific groups, 15 modern laboratories and 8 spin-offs nowadays. In 2016, RQC was the first in Russia to launch an absolutely secure connection in commercial lines, in May 2017 – the country’s first multinode quantum network and the world’s first quantum blockchain. In 2019 he led the development of a roadmap for quantum technologies in Russia. Currently he is a Head of the project on building a quantum computer in Russia with a budget of 24 bln RUB.
