Around 10,000 euros a year.

IMPACT

Over the course of the project, the scenarios of the future ocean and the artwork have reached tens of thousands of people and continue to do so. The website alone has had over 10,000 unique visitors and the wired and nature articles have each reached hundreds of thousands of people who previously had not engaged with questions around the future oceans.

TARGET GROUP

  • Policymakers, who have the capacity to influence oceans policy but don’t know how or lack the inspiration to take things forward. This can be at International, Regional, National or local levels.
  • Those who are deeply engaged in pop culture, especially so called ‘nerd’ or ‘geek’ culture. Talented, intelligent people who can, through their love of science fiction contribute to solutions that can lead us toward sustainable ocean stewardship

KEY LEARNINGS 

  • We learnt how to make art/science collaboration work in practice and how dramatically the art/science collaboration can amplify the impact that projects like this can have.
  • We learnt that explicitly using storytelling and science fiction allowed us to bring together a set of disparate and complex facts about the future oceans together in a coherent and plausible way.
  • We learnt that this approach lends itself to democratising the process of scenario creation.
