KEY LEARNINGS

  • Changing the way science is communicated to teenagers is challenging. To create an inclusive and inspiring landscape that will foster more girls and boys to pursue a career in STEM institutions need to rethink how they are thinking and acting when it comes to gender inclusion.
  • Science centres and museums can serve as permanent places (Hubs) where gender and STEM are addressed and worked on. Hubs consist of schools, informal educational institutions, local, regional and national authorities, academic research institutes and industries, gender experts, parents, but above all, young people themselves.
  • Young people can be considered as equal partners when it comes to designing activities for them. They can conceive concepts, test activities, provide feedback and perspective, create content that more effectively communicates with their peers.
