The Falling Walls Engage Hub Sweden connects international and regional science engagement practitioners. At this network meeting, science engagers explore the science engagement landscape in Sweden and Northern Europe.
Science engagement is understood and practised very differently in each region. Sweden is a leader in science and innovation in Europe and has a tradition of investing in research and development. We will take a closer look at the Swedish/Northern European perspective and bring our global conversation on science engagement.

During these difficult times, there are additional challenges to overcome when engaging society with science. It may also be an opportunity to try new ways to connect with communities online and offline. We’re heading online to stay connected while maintaining our distance.
Event theme: How to engage the public in science when you cannot meet in person?
Meeting bans, home office, lockdown. Now what? How do we engage with the public when there is no public any more?
A lot is happening right now regarding expanding online or transforming into the digital sphere to keep science engagement initiatives up and running. Not all initiatives – especially the event-based ones – will be able to make this move without giving up on their unique spirit and atmosphere.
However, this may also serve as an opportunity to get inspired to test new ways, potentially reach new target groups, and establish a plan B in times of need. During our sessions, we discuss how to create meaningful online science engagement, avoid the ’gold rush’ towards online pop-up solutions, and stay sane while getting there.
The event takes place on Monday 27 April and Monday 4 May. Each day consists of a 3-hour online session.
The event concludes with a 1-hour public session, where the international science engagers exchange ideas with a public audience on how to engage the public in science when you cannot meet in person.
The virtual network meeting is hosted by Falling Walls Engage in cooperation with our Swedish partner Vetenskap & Allmänhet (Public & Science). The online workshops are facilitated by the Work Transformation Collective.
