Amanar aims to empower and inspire the Sahrawi refugee community through the wonders of the Universe. Special attention is given to teachers, children and the youth, to strengthen their resilience and make them feel part of a global community. The project facilitates the development of scientific skills and critical thinking, by performing teacher workshops, hands-on activities and sky observations in local schools, contributing to the improvement of the quality of teaching in the region.
Sandra Benítez Herrera
Sandra Benitez Herrera studied Physics at the Complutense University of Madrid, Spain, and obtained her PhD at the Max-Planck for Astrophysics/Technical University in Munich, Germany. She is also a specialist in Science Communication. Currently, Sandra works at the Outreach Department of the Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias, coordinating science outreach projects. She is a member of GalileoMobile since 2011 and has organized educational projects in rural schools of India, Brazil, Ecuador, Chile, Uganda, Bolivia & Argelia.
