Description

The goal of this project is to engage the public in the wonders of cat behaviour science, in both its inputs and outputs. By calls advertised via the Facebook Page of Makast, people interested in participation in research can provide data on their cats using “citizen science” methods e.g. by filling questionnaires or providing videos. And via podcasts and information shared on Facebook website, these “amateur-scientists” can be informed about the results of the research they helped with in simple and comprehensible way.

What This Organisation Can Offer

Makast (podcast and its Facebook Page) aims to connect cat owners and cat enthusiasts to create a community of people who want to help with the research of cat behaviour and felines in general, so we can harmonise our co-living.

What This Organisation Is Looking for

Having a community involved in whole process of scientific research would help to spread gained knowledge more effectively, while such public engagement model could then be applied on other domestic animals on national and international levels.

Noema Gajdo

2022 Science Engagement (Falling Walls Engage)

Noema Gajdo graduated as a veterinarian from the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, Slovakia, in 2016. She started with her research focused on feline social behaviour during her PhD, and currently continues her work in her capacity of researcher at the same home university, while collaborating with experts from the field across the world. In her future work, she plans to connect her research with cat welfare-oriented activities in Slovakia by applying interdisciplinary approach and a public engangement angle, as human behavioural change is crucial for the improvement of cat wellbeing.
