Professor for Veterinary Medicine

Prof. Dr. Christa Thöne-Reineke studied veterinary medicine at the FU Berlin and received her PhD in basic cardiovascular research at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry at the FU Berlin. She is a veterinary specialist in laboratory animal science and physiology. She was head of the Max Rubner Laboratory at the German Institute of Human Nutrition in Potsdam and then habilitated at the Institute of Pharmacology and Toxicology in the CCR of the Charité University Medicine Berlin in the field of experimental pharmacology in cardiovascular research. Afterwards she was deputy head of the FEM at Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin and animal welfare officer. Since 2014, she has been Professor of Animal Welfare, Animal Behavior and Laboratory Animal Science at the Department of Veterinary Medicine at the FU Berlin and is Managing Director of the Institute of the same name. Her research focuses on 3Rs in research and teaching, animal behaviour and animal welfare.She is project leader in the Cluster of Excellence SCIoI, project leader in BB3R, 3R-SMART, SIMULRATOR, Save-IVF and deputy spokesperson of the Einstein Center EC3R. She works in numerous regional, national and international committees such as the Ethic Committee of Berlin Authorities, Berlin Chamber of Veterinary Surgeons and the Ethic committee of the Berlin Zoo.
