The nominating institution National University of Singapore on the breakthrough:

The current pandemic is disrupting lives and rapid on-site testing is key to containing the outbreak. However, current testing requires samples to be sent to a centralized laboratory and results can take up to a few days to be made known. We developed Epidax, a patent pending portable microfluidic based PCR diagnostic system, for the rapid on-site testing of infection. This portable diagnostic system can play an important role in bringing major disease outbreaks under control.

Chwee Teck Lim

Professor Chwee Teck Lim is a researcher, inventor and entrepreneur and heads the Institute for Health Innovation and Technology at the National University of Singapore. He conducts interdisciplinary basic and applied research in human diseases and develops medical technologies for better diagnosis and precision therapy. He has over 400 scientific publications and more than 50 filed and granted patents. He cofounded six startups that aims to bring research outcomes from his laboratory to the bedside and market. Prof. Chwee Teck Lim and his team has garnered over 100 research awards and honours.
