The #BlueCarbonArmy is a multisector initiative educating Australia’s corporate executives in climate change literacy, while empowering them to build a sustainable future and value Australia’s coastal ecosystems. By swapping their suits for gumboots, and providing an educational immersive experience into coastal wetland research, our program connected 300+ executives (from 20+ organisations) with nature and science, strengthening their environmental knowledge and commitment to sustainability.

Maria del Mar Palacios

Deakin University

Maria is a marine ecologist, project manager, and science communicator, with 10+ years experience studying marine and coastal ecosystems. She currently leads the citizen science and community engagement programs for Deakin’s Blue Carbon Lab, where she educates stakeholders on the value of coastal wetlands, while they contribute to collect critical data for climate change research.
