Barbara Ischinger is Adjunct Professor in the Humanities at Cologne University and among other responsibilities Vice President of the Board of Goettingen University and of the Liberal Arts College at Freiburg University. She is also Member of the Strategic Committee of Geneva University and Trustee of the Board of the Museums of Natural History in Berlin and Frankfurt.

She has held a range of senior international positions over the last twenty years in the fields of international cooperation and higher education, with a focus on Europe, the United States and Africa.

From 2006 until 2014, she was Director for Education and Skills at OECD in Paris and from 2000 to 2005 Executive Vice-President of Humboldt University in Berlin; she was also the Executive Director of the German-American Fulbright Commission (1994-2000) and Director for Cultural Identities at UNESCO (1992-1994).

She received in 2013 the INSSO Global Award for Leadership in Education and Workforce Development, together with Hon. Gordon Brown, UN Envoy for Education.
