Our friend and long date blogger Jeffrey Marlow from Caltech reports about Falling Walls Venture 2014. Who will be the Falling Walls Science Start-up of the Year 2014?
Before I begin talking about my Falling Walls Lab experience, I have to briefly mention the moment that brought me to participate in this competition. Let’s go back to 2011 during the Egyptian Revolution when the security system was failing in a very dangerous and frightening way.
The traditional perception of a “lab” as an impersonal and controlled environment for scientific research could not be more different from the “Lab” hosted by Falling Walls. The latter is a vibrant and dynamic space for thought leaders to share, connect and develop new ideas. It is the prelude to the Falling Walls Conference, which is billed as “The International Conference on Future Breakthroughs in Science and Society”. But how did a young chemistry student come to share the stage with some of our world’s foremost minds?
2013 was dominated by important news on the human rights front. We present you some of the most inspiring speakers of our 5 editions to bring you into the mind of a freedom fighter.
