Driven by science passion and continuous growth, Dr. Flávia Sousa has been developing new biological nanotherapies for the brain cancer. She is a pharmacist by training, and she has a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from University of Porto, Portugal. During her scientific career, she has been awarded with renowned international grants, such as Fulbright, Marie-Sklodowska-Curie grant. Currently, she is a Senior Researcher at Adolphe Merkle Institute (Fribourg, Switzerland) leading a project for the development of nanovaccine to tackle aggressive brain cancers, awarded by the Fellowship Program for Women in Science of the NCCR Bio-Inspired Materials.

I want to find emerging nano-based strategies for the treatment of aggressive brain cancers.  I want this because this will increase the survival of cancer patients and have an impact on their life’s quality. I can do this because I have a strong background in nanomedicine achieved through my international experience in several world-famous research institutions.

Flávia Sousa participated at the Female Science Talents International Spring Gathering 2023 and the Female Science Talents Intensive Track 2023.
