Rosalia Vargas is the President of Ciência Viva - National Agency for Scientific and Technological Culture, Portugal, and Director of Pavilion of Knowledge, the Lisbon Science Centre. Since 1996, she has been leading the creation of a network of science centers in Portugal, currently with 20 members. She was elected City Councilor for Education, Youth and Culture at Lisbon City Hall (2007 – 2009), president of Ecsite – European Network of Museums and Science Centers, Brussels (2013-2015) and a board member of ASTC – Association of Science Technology Centers, based in Washington DC. Her academic and professional development covers Education, Media Studies, Political Governance, and Scientific and Technological Culture. Other key positions include: member of the National Council of Education; member of Open University Advisory Board; member of the International Committee of Copernicus Science Centre, Warsaw; member of the Steering Committee of EMME - Euro-Mediterranean and Middle East science education project and member of the discussion group of the “Museums in the Future” project, created by the Portuguese Ministry of Culture.
