Through the last 30 years Stephen has been a pioneer in online learning and new media, working with both theory and technology toward a society where knowledge and learning are public goods, freely created and shared. He is best known for his work in learning content syndication and metadata, for work in open educational resources, for 'connectivism', a network-based learning theory, and for the world’s first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC).
