Zia Fellow

Julia Modes is an Academic Assistant in the department of Art History and Media Philosophy at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design. She studied Art and Visual History, Philosophy and Creative Writing in Berlin, Melbourne and New York. In 2019 she organized the exhibition festival unselect and curated its main exhibition unnatural in Berlin. She taught at Humboldt University, for the Berlin University Alliance, and at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. She is writing her PhD on the violence in the works of the American artist Cy Twombly at Humboldt University. In 2022 she was a visiting scholar at the Menil Drawing Institute in Houston, Texas and at the Eikones Graduate School in Basel.
